History

The Department of Chemistry Education was first established in 1982 as a department within the Department of Science Education with the law numbered 2547. After continuing its activities as the Department of Chemistry Education since 1995, it was transformed into the Department of Chemistry Education under the umbrella of the Department of Mathematics and Science Education in 1998 within the framework of the restructuring of the education faculties.

Chemistry Education Department program provides undergraduate education to students placed with MF-3 score type. In the Department, a 4-year undergraduate program has been implemented since the 2014-2015 academic year. There are 7 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, and 3 Assistant Professors in our department. In the undergraduate program, students take both field knowledge courses and courses for the teaching profession within the Gazi Education Faculty. Courses are conducted on a semester basis. In addition to the compulsory field courses that develop and mature the subject area and professional knowledge, there are also elective courses for the interests of the students in the subject area, vocational, and general culture categories. Theoretical courses are supported by laboratory applications. Pre-service teachers perform their first formal experience in the teaching profession by doing internships in secondary schools. Teacher candidates who complete the undergraduate program can graduate as chemistry teachers and teach in public or private schools. Students who want to work as academic staff have the opportunity to do postgraduate education after completing the undergraduate program.
